*&. O h lcal lluroc Air Force Base, ___.......g Incident :;p. 1 3 July 19^7, 09jO hours local, lluroc Air Force Base, Four vd.tncsr.es, all observed two oilvjr disc like or^sphcrical objects a*ainst a clear bright sky^All vritnesses esliriated t^e al-Jptude at about G000 feet, a; the speed betvroen puU and 1*00 IIPJ-U It is possible to Cotiniate distance and speed oi'''''''' an object Tilth a fair degree of accuracy if the siae is imovm, 1I10 distance is judged on the knov/n size. ;and speed on an estinatc of dicstance, plus ancu!lar change in position (see page o, app. G) In tliis incident -tha size coulxi not bo knovm, ovrinc to the fact that the object was not identified* The time in sivt and anjular distance traveled ware not given. IIcrTOver, the first witness stated ho si^ited the objects at 0^0, and tiie last \-ritness said he this called to vie";; the objects at 1000. Time in sight i3 therefore assumed to be at least one-half hour. The objects reportedly traveled in a straight line. Taking the nean reix)rted speed (^p0 MHI) , the objects must then have traveled 175 HPH "hile in siglit. If the objects were o such proportions as to be seen at that distance, it is believed that more details could have been observed at tho first sighting. Ttfo additional remarkable aspects of this case aret ! A. few moments previous to the si^jbiting, the first witness was engaged in conversation. Quoting the vritness, MUy part in this conversation vraa a3 follovrs: fSomeone vdll have bo shov/ me one of those discs before I -rail believe it,111 2. The statements of the three other Y/rtnosses frere :iade to the first i,Yitness, All three agree almost identically with the first* It is probable, therefore, that their evidence y/as influenced by suggestion, AJ1C Opinion; This report is a result of misinterpretation of the nature of real stinuli, probably research balloons. .d
